ECOPRINT! Workshop by Laura Dell’Erba

THEME OF THE CLASS

Many consider eco-printing as an evolution of the traditional methods of natural dyeing. However, while for the latter you mordant the fabric and then you put it into a decoction of plants or into a bath of dyeing extracts, in the eco-printing process dye plants (as well as plants that are not traditionally used for dyeing) are directly applied to the fabric that you want to dye or print.
During this workshop, you are going to experiment with printing, mostly using leaves that you are going to pick yourself during the first day of class.
You are going to learn how to prepare fabrics for printing, how to work with cold mordanting and how to apply a base color using extracts and decoctions.
