Maryanne Moodie and weaving from modernist inspirations

Maryanne Moodie is an Australian weaver. She creates textile art that draws inspiration from Nature, from modernist design icons, from architecture in general, and uncomfortable feelings. Her career began to blossom during the years she was living in Brooklyn, New York. In fact, this is where she managed to encounter like-minded people and to steadily grow her community of admirers. Maryanne also has a great passion for teaching. She has written two books on hand weaving and is currently running 3 online courses and running sold out workshops around the world. You can find her artwork in corporate, government and even private collections. She currently also works a lot on commissioned pieces.

Maryanne has created, using our materials, a wall hanging inspired by the summer sunsets that she has admired so far this year. She chose to use our extra fine merino tops, silk ribbons and Piuma yarn in yellow, orange, brown, and also blue and white. In fact, if you look at it from the right distance, it seems like you are watching a sunset over the sea. A never-ending sunset that you can enjoy at any time of your choosing. This is also the beauty of art; it gives you the gift of remaining unchanged over time.

For us she also reminds us, especially with her the choice of colours, of Frank Lloyd Wright and his Seth Peterson Cottage which embodies the principles of his modernism: closeness to Nature and small spaces that appear large.

This wall painting, suggests a 70’s vintage-inspired colour palette, adds sumptuousness and verve to any room. You could try repeating the same colour combination too, either for a wall hanging, a sweater, or a rug. Why not?

Thanks, Maryanne, for having chosen our products. Also, thank you for your contagious smile that you flaunt in every photo or video! A Good mood is always a good choice.
