WOOL PREFELT RIBBON, 2.5 CM WIDE – 20 M

Code 8511

One tape, a thousand uses.

$11.55

Prefelt is an already partially felted wool base designed to make it easier and faster to make felt projects. Unlike staple carded wool, it has a compact but still workable structure that allows overlapping layers before completing the felting. Thanks to its thin ribbon cut, it allows for highly precise graphic designs and decorations.

Extra-fine merino wool pre-felt ribbon.
Composition: 100% wool.
Height: 2.5 cm.
Raw cut.

Wool fiber, particularly merino fiber, is prized for its natural structure composed of keratin, an elastic and tough protein that gives the fiber unique characteristics:

  • High elasticity and resilience, which help the material maintain its shape over time
  • Excellent ability to absorb moisture without being wet to the touch
  • Natural thermoregulation, ideal for all seasons
  • Excellent plushability, due to the presence of microscopic scales on the fiber surface

The fineness of the wool, measured in microns, directly affects the softness and quality of processing: finer fibers result in softer fibers on the skin and allow for more even and precise spinning. For this reason, extra fine wools are particularly suitable for high-level spinning, weaving and felting projects.

Also being a fiber of natural and animal origin, extra fine merino wool is biodegradable and renewable, a conscious choice for those who wish to work with environmentally friendly materials without sacrificing softness, strength and versatility.

Our extra fine merino wool tops come from selected South American farms particularly from countries such as Argentina, Uruguay and Chile, areas with a long tradition of sheep farming and high quality standards in textile fiber production. In these regions, the practice of mulesing is not widespread and, in fact, merino wool is naturally mulesing-free. This means that animals are raised according to methods that do not involve this intervention, thanks in part to local climatic and environmental conditions that reduce the risk of parasitic infestations responsible for its introduction in other areas of the world.

South American merino wool is valued for:

  • Fiber fineness and uniformity, ideal for spinning and felting
  • Good elasticity and strength, which facilitate processing
  • Consistent high quality through genetic selection programs and controls throughout the supply chain
  • Ethical origin, with increasing attention to animal welfare and sustainability

Our merino wool is mulesing-free, meaning it comes from farms that do not practice mulesing, a surgical procedure used in some parts of the world to prevent parasitic infestations in sheep. The choice to use wool from supply chains that exclude this practice reflects our commitment to animal welfare and more responsible farm management.

The dyes used for our products meet the requirements of the OEKO-TEX standard, which guarantees the control and limitation of substances potentially harmful to human health and the environment.

The dyeing of fibers is carried out in our dyehouse in Italy, in compliance with current European regulations on chemical substances and environmental safety, including the REACH Regulation (EC No. 1907/2006), which governs the registration, evaluation, authorization and restriction of chemical substances.
Operating within the European Union also entails compliance with additional provisions on environmental protection and textile product safety, such as the CLP Regulation (EC No. 1272/2008), relating to the classification, labeling and packaging of substances and mixtures. This regulatory framework ensures that dyeing processes are conducted according to high standards of safety, traceability and environmental responsibility, offering a reliable product for both the end user and the environment.

Our extra fine merino wool tops are perfect for l´needle felting and forwater felting.

Since colors may vary depending on your monitor or device settings, we recommend purchasing our Color Card to check the shades in person before placing your final order. Want to check the quality of the material? Choose our Sample Box.

ATTENTION: all our colors generally have high light and wash fastness. However, fluorescent colors (80's collection), in addition to having lower light resistance, may also experience significant color loss when exposed to alkaline or particularly aggressive soaps, as well as during prolonged processing or washing. This phenomenon can also occur, to varying degrees, with dark and particularly bright colors. For materials dyed in these shades, we always recommend performing a preliminary processing and washing test on a small sample before completing your final project. This precaution is essential, especially when colored materials are combined with raw or light-colored fibers.
Finally, to best preserve colors, we recommend not drying finished items in direct sunlight, but in a shaded location.
